DFS Namespace Client Driver (DfsC) Service Defaults in Windows 7

Client driver for access to DFS Namespaces.

Default Settings

Startup type:System
Display name:DFS Namespace Client Driver
Service name:DfsC
Service type:filesys
Error control:normal
Group:Network
Path:%SystemRoot%\System32\Drivers\dfsc.sys
Registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DfsC

Default Behavior

DFS Namespace Client Driver is a file system driver. In Windows 7 it is being loaded at Kernel initialization. If DFS Namespace Client Driver fails to start, Windows 7 attempts to write the failure details into Event Log. Then Windows 7 startup should proceed and the user should be notified that the DfsC service is not running because of the error.

Dependencies

DFS Namespace Client Driver is unable to start, if the Mup service is stopped or disabled.

Restore Default Startup Configuration for DFS Namespace Client Driver

Before you begin doing this, make sure that all the services on which DFS Namespace Client Driver depends are configured by default and function properly. See the list of dependencies above.

1. Run the Command Prompt as an administrator.

2. Copy the commands below, paste them into the command window and press ENTER:

sc config DfsC start= system
sc start DfsC

3. Close the command window and restart the computer.

The DfsC service is using the dfsc.sys file that is located in the %WinDir%\System32\Drivers folder. If the file is changed, damaged or deleted, you can restore its original version from Windows 7 installation media.
