Default Behavior

Microsoft Hyper-V Guest Infrastructure Driver is a kernel device driver. In Windows 10 it is starting only if the user, an application or another service starts it. If Microsoft Hyper-V Guest Infrastructure Driver fails to start, the failure details are being recorded into Event Log. Then Windows 10 will start up and notify the user that the vmgid service has failed to start due to the error.

Dependencies

While Microsoft Hyper-V Guest Infrastructure Driver is stopped, disabled or working incorrectly, the Hyper-V Time Synchronization Service cannot be launched.

Restore Default Startup Configuration for Microsoft Hyper-V Guest Infrastructure Driver

2. Save the Win10_vmgid_Service_Startup.cmd file to a local storage device.

3. Run the saved file as an administrator.

4. Restart the computer.

The vmgid service is using the vmgid.sys file that is located in the %WinDir%\System32\drivers folder. If the file is changed, damaged or deleted, you can restore its original version from Windows 10 installation media.
